An exclusive new look at Alec Baldwin’s film “Rust” has arrived.
In the long-awaited Western drama, the actor stars as the titular Harland Rust, a notorious outlaw who reunites with his grandson Lucas when he needs him most.
After his parents’ death, 13-year-old Lucas (Patrick Scott McDermott) is left to fend for himself and his younger brother in Wyoming in the 1880s.
In an exclusive first look at the film’s new trailer, Lucas can be seen attempting to shoot a wolf to protect himself and his brother, but his shot accidentally hits and kills a local rancher instead.
After being jailed and sentenced to hang, Harland appears to break Lucas out of jail, and the two go on the run – with a bounty hunter on their heels.
“It’s not my job to take care of you,” Harland tells Lucas as they make their escape. “It’s to keep you alive.”
The film, which is set to hit theaters next month, has faced delays amid tragedy. It first began production in 2021, but it ceased that October when cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was accidentally killed on set after a live round was discharged from a prop gun held by Baldwin.
Baldwin denied pulling the trigger and claimed he was not aware it contained a live round. He was indicted on an involuntary manslaughter charge, but his case was later dismissed by a judge.
More than a year after the fatal accident, production resumed in the spring of 2023, with Bianca Cline stepping in as cinematographer.
After reaching a wrongful death settlement, Hutchins’ husband Matt became an executive producer on the film, and he and their son will receive profits from the movie, per a press release.
“Rust” is in theaters, on digital and on demand on May 2.
