Japan’s Former Princess Mako Welcomes 1st Child With Husband Kei Komuro

Japan’s former Princess Mako is a mom! Japan’s Imperial Household Agency announced on May 30 that she welcomed her first child whom she shares with her husband, Kei Komuro. Palace officials didn’t reveal the baby’s gender or date of birth but did say that the mother and baby are doing well, per the Associated Press. The former princess is Emperor Naruhito’s niece. She left the royal family in 2021 when she married her husband, who isn’t a royal. Her wedding marked her official exit from royalty because Japanese law requires female royalty to, “leave the Imperial family upon marriage to a commoner.”
