Lady Gaga Breaks Silence After Thwarted Alleged Bomb Threat at Record-Breaking Concert In Rio
Lady Gaga is speaking out after Brazilian authorities announced they thwarted an alleged planned bombing at her record-breaking concert in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, May 3, resulting in the arrest of two people. “We learned about this alleged threat via media reports this morning. Prior to and during the show, there were no known safety concerns, nor any communication from the police or authorities to Lady Gaga regarding any potential risks,” a spokesperson for Gaga told NBC News, adding, “Her team worked closely with law enforcement throughout the planning and execution of the concert and all parties were confident in the safety measures in place.” Rio de Janeiro Civil Police said in a post on X Sunday morning that the person allegedly responsible for the plan was arrested along with a teenager in connection to the incident. In a press conference the same day, law enforcement officials claimed that since Monday, they had had allegedly received information that “there would be a plan in these digital platforms to commit a bomb attack with homemade explosive artifacts and Molotov cocktails,” adding it would mainly target “the LGBTQIA+ public.” The pop star’s show was the largest of her career, playing to approximately 2.5 million people at the Copacabana Beach. She now reportedly holds the record for highest attended concert by a female artist in history – beating out Madonna who drew 1.6 million at the same venue. After the show, Gaga reflected on the evening in an Instagram post, writing in part, “Nothing could prepare me for the feeling I had during last night’s show—the absolute pride and joy I felt singing for the people of Brazil. The sight of the crowd during my opening songs took my breath away.”
