NFL’s Marshawn Kneeland Found Dead Of Apparent Suicide At 24 After Police Chase
NFL player Marshawn Kneeland has died at just 24 years old. The Dallas Cowboys defensive end was found dead with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in the early hours of Nov. 6, NBC News confirms. Police in Frisco, Texas, said in a statement that authorities from multiple agencies had been pursuing Kneeland after he allegedly failed to pull over for a traffic stop, crashed the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. Per NBC News, law enforcement learned during their search that Kneeland had expressed suicidal ideations earlier in the evening. Officers had also responded to a welfare check that night at a residence connected to Kneeland but were unable to speak with anyone on site. Police said that the local medical examiner’s office will determine an official cause and manner of death, and the investigation remains ongoing. The sad news comes just days after Kneeland scored a touchdown for the Cowboys during Monday Night Football. The team shared sorrow for his passing in a statement, calling Kneeland “a beloved teammate and member of our organization,” adding, “Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family.” Kneeland’s agent, Jonathan Perzley, also reflected on the loss while honoring the athlete’s dedication to his sport. “Marshawn poured his heart into every snap, every practice, and every moment on the field. To lose someone with his talent, spirit, and goodness is a pain I can hardly put into words,” Perzley shared in a statement. “My heart aches for his family, his teammates, and everyone who loved him, and I hope they feel the support of the entire football community during this unimaginable time.”
