Whoopi Goldberg, 50 Cent, Mark Ruffalo & More Celebrities React To Zohran Mamdani’s NYC Mayor Win
Zohran Mamdani’s historic electoral win as New York City’s next mayor is sparking major reaction from Hollywood to Washington, D.C. The 34-year-old democratic socialist defeated candidates including former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to be the first Muslim who will lead the country’s largest city and its youngest mayor in more than a century. “The View” weighed in on Mamdani’s victory the following morning, with co-host Whoopi Goldberg sharing how she believes the moment is a call for everyone to hold their leaders accountable. “We must remind everybody who won what their job is supposed to be and why you voted for them and when it’s not happening, it is our right as New Yorkers, as Americans, to say, ‘What is happening?'” Celebrities including Mark Ruffalo and Lupita Nyong’o, who publicly supported Mamdani’s campaign, celebrated his win on social media, as Rachel Zegler, Lauren Jaregui, Chelsea Handler, Spike Lee, Emily Ratajkowski and more also shared their excitement. Others, however, were less enthused. 50 Cent openly expressed his dismay over Mamdani, posting a graphic of a headstone reading “RIP NYC” and sharing a video of Mamdani’s victory speech alongside the caption “NYC finished.” Mamdani is just one Democrat who secured a significant win on Nov. 4, joining Virgina governor-elect Abigail Spanberger and New Jersey governor-elect Mikie Sherrill. President Trump reacted to the news on Truth Social, claiming that Republicans may have underperformed at the polls because he “wasn’t on the ballot.” Mamdani’s popularity had surged in recent months following his primary win over the summer, and he’d recently gotten the “Saturday Night Live” treatment thanks to a guest impersonation from Ramy Youseff. The actor and comedian even FaceTimed with Mamdani afterward to show off the spot-on details of his costuming.
