Why Serena Williams Isn’t Keeping Her Weight Loss Medication a Secret

Serena Williams opened up to Access Hollywood’s guest correspondent Emily Orozco about her journey with Ro and taking a GLP-1 weight loss medication. Serena, who is a paid spokesperson for the health care company Ro, described that after the birth of her second daughter she struggled to be at the weight that she desired, despite diet and exercise changes. Serena explained, “People need to know about this, like, ‘it’s a like a secret,’ ‘Oh it’s a bad thing or you think you shouldn’t do it’ or ‘it’s a shortcut.’” Serena continued, “I want to tell, as an athlete, as a professional athlete, even playing professional sports, particularly after I had my kids, not being able to get my weight where I wanted it to be at a healthy place, no matter what I did.” Adding, “Everything…and I’m not a person who takes shortcuts, you know, I’m a person who works really hard and harder than the next person. Ro really helped me steer my journey into GLP-1’s and I think it’s something my body needed because I didn’t change. I still workout, I still do the same stuff, I’m just able to lose the weight that I wasn’t able to do before.”
