Bette Midler Roasts Donald Trump While Serenading Stephen Colbert With ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ Spoof

Bette Midler just made a few changes to one of her signature songs. The Hollywood legend serenaded Stephen Colbert on “The Late Show,” where she paid musical tribute to the host with a spoof of her 1988 classic “The Wind Beneath My Wings.” Though Bette reworded a few lyrics to honor Stephen’s love of “Lord of the Rings,” she also inserted reference to more controversial topics and the current political landscape – with one phrase in particular meant for President Donald Trump. “It must have been cold here at ‘The Late Show,’ despite the high ratings and awards. You need a gig that’s more worthwhile, now that you’re more in demand than Epstein’s file,” she sang. “Did you ever know you’re my Frodo? You stand for what’s right with wit and class. I hold you high as the great eagles, because you never kissed the orange a**.” Bette’s performance comes three months after CBS announced “The Late Show” will be ending in May 2026, with the network citing financial reasons for the decision. The news came as a shock and surprise to fans and Colbert himself, however, with many pointing out that CBS’ parent company Paramount Global had recently agreed to pay President Trump $16 million as a settlement in his lawsuit that claimed “60 Minutes” had misleadingly edited its interview with Kamala Harris during the 2024 election. Bette has been a longtime outspoken Trump critic, and the president had yet to weigh in on her “Late Show” appearance as of Oct. 17.
