Cardi B Avoids $24M Payout After Jury Clears Her Of Assault Allegations In Civil Trial
Cardi B has been cleared of assault allegations in her civil trial. A Los Angeles jury sided with the rapper on Sept. 2, clearing her of any legal liability in the lawsuit filed by security guard Emani Ellis, who accused the Grammy winner of assaulting her. After deliberating for less than an hour, the jury unanimously found that the security guard did not prove there was assault or battery, negligence or emotional distress, according to NBC News. After the jury read its conclusions, Cardi reportedly made a sign of the cross. Ellis sued the rapper for $24 million over claims that Cardi assaulted her outside an L.A. medical office in 2018, alleging that the artists’ fingernails caused cuts on her face that required plastic surgery. Cardi, who was pregnant at the time with her first child, claims the security guard was following her and recording her with her cell phone which led to an alleged verbal confrontation, but denies either of them touched each other.
