Donald Trump Welcomes Lionel Messi & Inter Miami To White House After MLS Cup Win

President Donald Trump is honoring Lionel Messi and the Inter Miami team for its MLS Cup win at the White House. The soccer legend walked alongside the president and Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas as they entered the East Room in the White House on March 6 to commemorate the team winning the MLS Cup for the first time in the club’s history. When they reached the stage the gave the president a pink soccer ball and a Miami jersey. Trump then started the ceremony by talking in length about Iran and Cuba before introducing the club, mentioning that one of his son’s is a big fan of Messi. Friday’s visit was the first time Messi has been to the White House. He was previously invited by the Joe Biden administration to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom in January 2025, but he reportedly couldn’t attend because of prior commitments. Following the ceremony trump invited the team to the oval office. Inter Miami’s visit follows a long-standing tradition where American sport teams celebrate their championship wins at the white house.
