Eric Dane Breaks Down In Emotional First Interview After ALS Diagnosis
Eric Dane is opening up about the emotional road ahead after a devastating health update. The “Grey’s Anatomy” alum was diagnosed with ALS earlier this year and reflected on the news in his first sit-down interview since going public with his illness. Dane, 52, got honest with Diane Sawyer in an ABC News special set to air in full on June 16, sharing his hopeful perspective in light of the inevitable challenges before him. “I don’t think this is the end of my story. I don’t feel like this is the end of me,” he said. Though the “Euphoria” star is focused on staying positive, he noted that the situation still feels surreal. “I wake up every day and I’m immediately reminded that this is happening,” he told Sawyer. “It’s not a dream.” And the dad of two got emotional when recalling his early support system, tearing up as Sawyer asked who he called first. Dane first announced his ALS diagnosis in a statement to People in April, telling the mag that he is staying dedicated to his work and family while best preparing for what’s to come. “I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter. I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of ‘Euphoria’ next week,” he said at the time. “I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
