George Foreman, Heavyweight Boxing Champion, Olympic Gold Medalist & Grill Mogul, Dead At 76

George Foreman, the two-time world heavyweight boxing champion, has died at age 76. His family shared the sad news on his official Instagram account on March 21. “Our hearts are broken. With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025 surrounded by loved ones, ” the family wrote. “A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose,” the statement read alongside a picture of him with his family. Born in 1949, Foreman first gained national attention after winning an Olympic gold medal in boxing at age 19 at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. The next year he went pro, and in 1973 he fought against Joe Frazier for the World Heavyweight Championship title, which he won by a total knockout. He kept that title until he 1974, when he lost it Muhammad Ali. After he retired, he launched a business—the George Foreman Grill—and appeared on “The Masked Singer” in 2022. He is survived by his 11 of his 12 children and his wife Mary Joan Martelly.
