Jennifer Lawrence Gets Candid on Motherhood and Postpartum During Cannes Press Conference
Jennifer Lawrence is getting candid about motherhood and postpartum. During the May 18 press conference for her and Robert Pattison’s upcoming drama “Die, My Love,” which centers around a mother entering psychosis after developing postpartum depression, the actress reflected on her own experience. “Obviously, as a mother, it was really hard to kind of separate what I would do as opposed to what she would do. And it was just heartbreaking. When I first read the book, it was just such a devastating but powerful – Lynne said it was dreamlike – I had just had my firstborn, and there’s not really anything like postpartum. It’s extremely isolating, which is so interesting,” the Oscar-winner said adding, “When Lynne moves this couple into Montana, she doesn’t have a community. She doesn’t have her people. But the truth is, extreme anxiety and extreme depression is isolating, no matter where you are. You feel like an alien. And, so, it deeply moved me.” The 34-year-old, who recently welcomed her second child with husband Cooke Maroney, also discussed how motherhood has impacted her life and career. “Having children changes everything. It changes your whole life. It’s brutal and incredible,” she said in part.
