Kaylee Goncalves’ Sister Speaks Out On Confronting Bryan Kohberger With Emotional Court Statement

The sister of Idaho murder victim Kaylee Goncalves is sharing new insight into the blistering statement she delivered at Bryan Kohberger’s sentencing hearing. Just days after confronting Kohberger in court, Alivea Goncalves reflected on the emotional moment in a July 28 interview with ABC News and revealed that she was more than ready to face consequences of her own. “I was prepared to be arrested that day,” she said, adding, “I think that every single one of us were.” Alivea went on to note that seeing Kohberger react to her remarks in real time only motivated her to lean in further. “Man, was he mad,” she recalled. “That was obviously a big point of why I did what I did. To make him feel small because he is. … It actually makes me really emotional. I got up there knowing that my speech wasn’t to Kaylee and Maddie. It was for them.” Alivea also noted why it was important for her to memorize her speech in order to keep her eyes locked on Kohberger the entire time. “I mean, I stalked the stalker. I found everything that I could online from the beginning of time to now. It fueled me to know that, ‘I got you pegged,'” she explained. “I had one shot at it, and I was going to make the most of it.” Kohberger pleaded guilty to the 2022 killings of Kaylee and her fellow University of Idaho students Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin. He received a life sentence without parole for each victim.
