Nezza Sings National Anthem In Spanish At Dodger Stadium In Protest Against LA ICE Raids

Singer Nezza made a statement when she sang the Spanish-language version of the National Anthem at Dodger Stadium on June 14 amid ongoing ICE raids in Los Angeles. The Dominican-American singer, whose real name is Vanessa Hernández, performed “El Pendón Estrellado” apparently against the wishes of the Dodgers. However, moments later she performed the anthem in Spanish anyway and she later explained her decision in an emotional TikTok. “My parents are immigrants. They’ve been citizens my whole life at this point, but I just can’t imagine them being ripped away from me. Not now. Not when I was a kid. Never,” she said. Access Hollywood has reached out to the Dodgers for comment. As of Monday afternoon, the organization has not made a statement about Nezza’s performance, the ICE raids or the protests happening throughout Los Angeles as of Monday afternoon but a team official reportedly told the LA Times that the singer is welcome back at Dodger stadium. Nezza’s Spanish-language rendition happened on the same day as the “No Kings” marches across the U.S., which countered Trump administration policies and coincided with the president’s Flag Day military parade that also fell on his 79th birthday.
