Prince William Fights Back Tears In Emotional Interview Discussing Suicide Prevention

Prince William is holding back tears as he talks about the devastating impact of suicide with a woman whose husband died by suicide days after the death of their one-year-old son. The royal talked with Rhian Manning about the loss of her husband in the moving 8-minute film released on World Mental Health Day on Oct. 10. Rhian and Prince William first met in 2017 and she has since started a charity named 2 Wish, which helps families grieving the loss of a child. Rhian and the royal are meeting again to work together on suicide prevention. The royal started getting emotional, holding back tears, as Rhian revealed what she would say to Paul if he were still alive. “Are you OK?” Mannings asks the prince, who pauses for a moment to gather himself. “It’s hard to ask these questions,” William responds. “No, it’s fine. It’s just… you’ve got children,” Rhian interjects before adding, “It’s hard… and you’ve experienced loss yourself.” If you or someone you know is in crisis, call 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
