‘Today’ Host Craig Melvin Apologizes To Son For Getting His Age Wrong On Air

Craig Melvin is coming clean about an on-air parenting flub. The “Today” host welcomed lookalike son Delano to set for National Bring Your Kid To Work Day on April 24 and made an innocent mistake when referring to his youngster at the anchor desk. “It’s hard to get a 10-year-old up at 3:45. My daughter slept in,” he said, accidentally getting Delano’s age wrong by one year. He later brought the preteen to the plaza and set the record straight with a live apology and explanation to which many parents can likely relate. “This is Delano Melvin. He had a birthday a few weeks ago. So earlier, I referred to him as a 10-year-old. My son is…” he began, before offering Delano the mic. “11,” Delano smiled. “A formal apology. I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” Craig added. While co-host Carson Daly playfully teased Craig about the blunder, Willie Geist had a supportive response. “We’ve all done it, Craig. We’ve all done it,” he chimed in. Delano went on to prove he inherited more than just his dad’s features, reading teleprompter copy at the anchor desk and receiving high-fives from the “Today” team for his effort. A proud-looking Craig beamed by Delano’s side, prompting the show’s Instagram followers to applaud the father-son pair.
