Julia Fox Defends Controversial Bloody Jackie Kennedy Halloween Costume After Backlash
Julia Fox is doubling down on her controversial Jackie Kennedy Halloween costume. The actress drew backlash for dressing as the former First Lady in a blood-soaked pink suit that evoked historic imagery from President John F. Kennedy’s assassination. Julia completed the look with a blue handbag, white gloves and Jackie’s signature pillbox hat, showing off the ensemble at Julio Torres’ Halloween party in New York City on Oct. 30. The costume drew fierce criticism online, with many calling it distasteful. JFK and Jackie’s grandson, Jack Schlossberg, was among those who spoke out, sharing his thoughts in a not-so-subtle post on X. “Julia Fox glorifying political violence is disgusting, desperate and dangerous. I’m sure her late grandmother would agree,” he wrote. However, Julia herself defended the costume in a lengthy Instagram message explaining that she meant to pay tribute to Jackie. “I’m dressed as Jackie Kennedy in the pink suit. Not as a costume, but as a statement. When her husband was assassinated, she refused to change out of her blood-stained clothes, saying, ‘I want them to see what they’ve done.’ The image of the delicate pink suit splattered with blood is one of the most haunting juxtapositions in modern history. Beauty and horror. Poise and devastation. Her decision not to change clothes, even after being encouraged to, was an act of extraordinary bravery. It was performance, protest, and mourning all at once. A woman weaponizing image and grace to expose brutality. It’s about trauma, power, and how femininity itself is a form of resistance. Long live Jackie O,” she wrote. While some followers supported Julia and the context behind her Halloween inspiration, others weren’t satisfied. “For her, it was an extraordinary active [sic] bravery. For you it’s just attention seeking and horribly disrespectful. Do better,” one user wrote. JFK was fatally shot next to Jackie on Nov. 22, 1963, as the pair rode in the backseat of a convertible as part of their motorcade during a visit to Dallas. Jackie kept the same suit on while standing alongside Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson as he took the oath of office following JFK’s death.
