Nicole Scherzinger Explains How ‘Building The Band’ Is Like A Musical ‘Love Is Blind’

Nicole Scherzinger promises “Building the Band” is putting a unique spin on singing competitions. “It’s nothing like we’ve ever seen before, but it’s like the musical version of ‘Love Is Blind,'” Nicole told Access Hollywood. “It’s a musical band version of ‘Love Is Blind’ and it’s really cool because these contestants are putting themselves together in a band having never seen one another and just getting to connect with each other in these booths listening to each other and asking each other questions.” Nicole is no stranger reality singing competitions. Fans first met her on “Popstars” before she found massive success as the lead singer of The Pussycat Dolls. Since then, she’s won a Tony Award for her portrayal of Norma Desmond in “Sunset Boulevard,” adding to her already-impressive background that makes her a great mentor and judge for contestants. In fact, Nicole noted that she has a “great eye for talent” and famously helped form One Direction on “X Factor UK.” Nicole also reunited with 1D’s now-late Liam Payne when he served as a guest judge on “Building the Band,” and she told Access how the show will honor his legacy. “I’m so thrilled for everyone to see Liam shine on this show,” she said. “I know that he really enjoyed our filming process and being a part of this process. I know that he put in the extra hours that he wanted to work with these bands even off screen. So, when I think about Liam and this show I’m thrilled for everyone to see his light and he was amazing.” Every episode of “Building the Band” will be streaming on Netflix July 9.
