Reese Witherspoon Tearfully Pays Tribute To ‘Mentor’ Diane Keaton Onstage: ‘She Is Just Incredible’

Reese Witherspoon is remembering Diane Keaton. The beloved Hollywood actress passed away at the age of 79, her daughter, Dexter, confirmed to NBC News on Oct 11. Hours after the news broke of her passing, Witherspoon paid an emotional tribute to the Academy Award winner while onstage at her Shine Away Connected by AT&T event in Los Angeles. “I’m going to try and get through this without tearing up, but I don’t know if you guys heard that Diane Keaton passed today,” the “Big Little Lies” star began, adding, “Diane was really important. She was one of my first mentors in this business.” Witherspoon went on to recall auditioning at 15-years-old for “Wildflower,” which was directed by Keaton, sharing, “She was like, ‘Well, you’re hired. You’re hired today, tomorrow, and the next day. I don’t know who you are but I’m so excited to have you.’” The “Morning Show” star also described the late actress as “incredible and indelible.”
