Shakira Thinks Being An Immigrant Under Trump Administration ‘Means Living In Constant Fear’

Shakira is opening up about her experience as an immigrant living in the United States under President Donald Trump’s new immigration policies. In an interview with the BBC published on June 12, the Colombian singer candidly revealed what it feels like for her to be an immigrant under the Trump administration. “It means living in constant fear,” she said. “And it’s painful to see,” she added before explaining why she thinks it’s important the Latin community stays united. “Now, more than ever, we have to raise our voices and make it very clear that a country can change its immigration policies, but the treatment of all people must always be humane,” she said. This isn’t the first time Shakira has spoken out. In February, she addressed the Trump administration’s view of immigration while accepting the Grammy for best Latin pop album. “I want to dedicate this award to all of my immigrant brothers and sisters. In this country, you’re loved. You’re worth it. And I will always fight with you,” she said at the time.
