Shannen Doherty Honored By Sarah Michelle Gellar, Tori Spelling & More 1 Year After Her Death
Gone, but never forgotten. Shannen Doherty’s famous friends are honoring her memory one year after she passed away following a lengthy battle with breast cancer. The “Beverly Hills, 90210” star’s former castmates including Tori Spelling and Ian Ziering reflected on Shannen’s loss with lengthy Instagram tributes. For his part, Ian directly addressed those who criticized him for not speaking out on Shannen’s death earlier. “To them I say: grief isn’t a performance. It’s personal. Let people grieve how they grieve,” he wrote in part, noting that Shannen’s death paired with the 2019 passing of fellow “90210” alum Luke Perry has been difficult to process. “That kind of loss doesn’t fade. It just rearranges the furniture in your heart,” he wrote. Tori explained how the inspiration Shannen instilled is helping her carry her legacy today. “I’ve honored you by telling the truth louder. By choosing softness when I could’ve chosen armor. And by saying ‘no’ more than I ever used to—because you would’ve,” she wrote in part. Shannen’s longtime pal Sarah Michelle Gellar let a poignant throwback montage speak mostly for itself, leaving a simple broken heart emoji in her caption. And Shannen’s “Charmed” co-stars Holly Marie Combs and Rose McGowan also took to social media to remember the actress, with Holly sharing that the past year has felt like just a minute for her, and Rose adding that she is confident Shannen can “feel the love from around the world.” The ’90s icon passed away on July 13, 2024, at just 53 years old. Months earlier, nearly a decade after first announcing her diagnosis, Shannen confirmed that the illness had spread to her brain and bones.
