Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon & More Late Night Hosts React To Donald Trump’s $300M Ballroom

Late night hosts are sharing their thoughts on President Donald Trump’s $300 million White House ballroom project that’s demolished the building’s historic East Wing. On Oct. 23, Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers all spoke out on the polarizing reaction to the plan and its massive price tag. Fallon noted on “The Tonight Show” that the new structure is also meant to include a glass bridge that may not be an ideal addition for guests in formal wear. Over on “The Late Show,” Colbert acknowledged that preservationists are requesting a pause on construction amid debate over the ballroom project never going through official approval channels or inviting comment from the public – leaving Colbert to chime in with his own straightforward review. Meanwhile on “Late Night,” Meyers joined many pointing out the inconsistencies in Trump’s past remarks on the project including that it wouldn’t affect or even touch the existing White House, and how some Republicans are likening it to property updates from past administrations. The East Wing has historically been home to offices for the First Lady, though Melania Trump has been silent on the topic even since construction began. The ballroom is said to take up a planned 90,000 square feet – roughly two acres and bigger than a professional football field and the White House itself. Trump has said that taxpayers will not bear any burden for the cost and the project is being funded through donations from private individuals and major companies including Google, Meta, Apple and more.
