Viral Coldplay Kiss Cam Video Fallout Under Investigation, CEO’s Company Announces
Tech company Astronomer has confirmed it is investigating the fallout from a viral video that shows a couple ducking away from the kiss cam at a recent Coldplay concert in Boston. The pair appeared so caught off guard in the clip that Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin dropped a zinger that immediately sent internet sleuths to work. “Either they’re having an affair or they’re really shy,” Martin joked, as the man and woman both scrambled out of view. Though NBC News has yet to independently verify the couple’s respective identities as of July 18, online users have said Astronomer CEO Andy Byron is in the footage and now the company’s Board of Directors is giving the matter a closer look. A statement posted to Astronomer’s social media notes that the company is “committed to the values and culture that have guided us” since its founding and that “leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability,” adding that a formal investigation is underway with more details to come. Following a false and widely circulated statement credited to Byron from a now-suspended parody account on X, Astronomer went on to clarify that Byron himself has yet to issue any formal comment. As for Martin, he appeared to recognize onstage the potential impact the moment would have. “Oh s***, I hope we didn’t do something bad,” he chuckled in one concert clip, before jokingly asking another pair highlighted on the kiss cam if they’re “a legitimate couple.”
