Man Miraculously Survives Air India Plane Crash That Left More Than 200 Others Dead (Reports)
At least one passenger has reportedly survived the devastating Air India plane crash that left more than 200 dead. The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner went down immediately after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12, carrying 242 people. Though officials initially said they believed everyone on board Flight 171 had died in the crash, Indian media later reported that at least one man, identified as British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, was still alive and taken to a local hospital. The Hindustan Times reportedly spoke to a man with the same name who recalled the terrifying incident. “Thirty seconds after takeoff, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly,” he told the outlet. Family members confirmed to Sky News that Ramesh survived but they had not yet heard from another family member who they believe was also on the flight. News agency ANI, citing the same 11A seat number associated with Ramesh in other media, also reports that the Ahmedabad police commissioner said one man is known to have survived the crash. Per NBC News, the flight manifest lists a passenger with Ramesh’s name in the same seat. NBC News has contacted the British Foreign Office for comment. In addition to the crew and passenger casualties, at least one person died and dozens more were injured when Flight 171 crashed into a student hostel near B.J. Medical College. Air India CEO Campell Wilson spoke out on the tragedy in an official statement shortly after the crash.
