Pope Leo XIV Speaks For First Time After Being Elected First American Pontiff
The new Pope is introducing himself to the world. Following the election of Cardinal Robert Prevost as the first American pontiff in history, he took to the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome and addressed a crowd of thousands as Pope Leo XIV. In his first remarks since the conclave, he paid tribute to his predecessor, the late Pope Francis, while calling for peace.
